विसर्ग संधि के नियम (आशीः + वाद = आशीर्वाद) के अनुसार रेफ़ (र्) का उच्चारण "शी" के बाद होता है, अतः रेफ़ अगले वर्ण "वा" के ऊपर लगेगा ("आशीर्वाद")। साथ ही "शी" में सदैव दीर्घ "ई" की मात्रा होती है। "आशिर्वाद" या "आशीवार्द" लिखना सर्वथा अशुद्ध है।
